Thread, wire, cardboard and even bubble wrap are the favorite materials of this American poet, painter and postminimalist sculptor. His monumental installation made of specially created fabrics can now be seen in the Tate Modern's Turbine Hall, while an exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery will explore his 50-year career.
